"It's a great day for our village": in Cantal, the other rock of Prince Albert II of Monaco

During an official visit to the department this Wednesday, the Monegasque sovereign recalled the unique history between the Grimaldi family and the Rocher de Carlat.

"It's a big day for our village, we've been waiting for it for so long." This retiree from Carlat is not mistaken. For eleven years, she and the inhabitants of the Cantal commune have been hoping for the return of their famous neighbor. The village of 400 souls, located fifteen kilometers from Aurillac, welcomed, this Wednesday, Prince Albert II of Monaco , who is none other than the owner of the prestigious site of the commune: the Rocher de Carlat. At its summit: a 2-hectare basalt plateau dominates the houses from forty meters high. "It's very special to return here to these places steeped in history for my family," the Monegasque sovereign said to the many people who came to shake his hand or have him sign clothes.

These lands became his family's property in 1914. Or rather, they became so again after a bizarre story. While the Grimaldis had obtained them thanks to Louis XIII in 1641, after the Treaty of Peronne, they were confiscated during the Revolution. But in 1911, the Rock was repurchased through a neat sleight of hand.
